OSoLiS at the European Shareware Conference

On 4 November 2006, the annual European Shareware Conference comes to Cambridge (UK), where OSoLiS is based. We are sponsoring the conference, participating in one of the panel discussions (at 11am on Sunday), and giving away some useful freebies. It's not too late to register. We look forward to seeing you there!

New ways to pay authors

Our quest to provide cost-effective electronic payment alternatives to wire transfer means we can now offer six different payment methods:

PayPal

Payments can be sent instantly to a PayPal account. We make no charge for this. Because we pay out of cleared funds in our PayPal account you can receive the money in a 'Personal' PayPal account and avoid any PayPal fees.

AlertPay

Payments can be sent instantly to an AlertPay account. We make no charge for this. AlertPay charge a fee to receive a payment, which may be $1 per transaction or 2.5% + US$0.25, depending on the type of account you have (which depends on how much money you expect to receive), and charge a fee to withdraw money (though you can also spend the money at shops accepting AlertPay).

moneybookers

Payments can be sent instantly to a moneybookers account. We pass on the 2.5% it costs us to upload funds to moneybookers. moneybookers charge US$0.70 to receive a payment, and typically $2.30 to withdraw money (though you can also spend the money at shops accepting moneybookers).

ACH ('bill payment')

Payments can be credited directly to a US bank account. There is no cost involved.

US dollar check

Payments can be sent as a US dollar check. There is no cost involved, but checks can be delayed in the mail and may take weeks to clear if deposited with a bank outside the US.

Wire transfer

Payment can be wired to any bank account. We pass on the bank fee of $40 for transfers to accounts outside the US and $22 for transfers to accounts within the US.

Still investigating ...

We are looking into offering WebMoney payments, which we know would appeal to authors in Russia. However we have been unable to find a (reliable) way to add funds that is cheaper than sending an international wire transfer.

Another service that we could offer is iKobo, which charges a transfer fee of $5 + 3%.

Improved affiliate management

We have updated the affiliate management system to support affiliate download links in addition to 'buy now' links. The download link sets a cookie on the user's computer so that if s/he purchases a license within a month, your Affiliate Order Code will be entered automatically into their order form (subject to certain technical conditions being satisfied).

Reseller payments

We can now automatically distribute income to resellers/agents on the basis of the country of sale. So if you use an agent to manage sales in, say, Australia, then you can set up your pricing schedule to pay that agent a percentage of every sale to an Australian-based user. No need for region-specific builds of your software, or special 'buy now' links, or anything else that may confuse your customers.

Reminders

And don't forget:

  • We can now add your software to Froogle, Google's shopping search engine.
  • We now support full-version downloads, allowing you to automatically release a fully-enabled program or script to customers once they have paid.
  • We offer customers the option to pay by PayPal (which is the chosen method of payment for between 10 and 20% of our customers).
  • Included in our service package is a powerful bulk-mailing facility for sending personalised e-mails to your customers.
  • We now have a version of our License Verification library available for Delphi as well as C++.
  • Our License Verification solution is compatible with the code encryption features of Armadillo, making for virtually uncrackable software protection.
  • Our registration system is available in English, German and Spanish.
  • We've simplified our Agreement with Authors.
  • We support payment distributions at source, to affiliates, resellers, co-developers, charities, etc.
  • Our fees are very competitive, starting at just 8% + $0.60
  • We handle every aspect of each sale, so you can get on with development without interruption - or go on holiday.

Short Survey of Requirements

We have a number of developments in the pipeline:

  • integrate popular key generation technologies such as ASProtect and Armdadillo
  • accept additional payment methods
  • handle orders for burn-on-demand CD-ROMs
  • translate registration system into other languages
  • port the License Verification Library to .NET
  • ... and others

To help us prioritize our resources to develop what you need or would most like, please spare a few moments to participate in our short survey of requirements. It will take you no more than two minutes!
